Mary Jo Maichak

LEICESTER, MA — Leicester Primary School will host national award-winning Minstrel Storyteller Mary Jo Maichack in two interactive shows this Friday.

"Storytelling is so much fun, and all ages gain fast improvement by retelling tales and playing with story through movement and music, too,” said Maichack. “Over the years, performance has fused with teaching so they naturally happen together."

“Folktales, Tunes, Dance and Drama” is a fun program that gives children the opportunity to enjoy the art of storytelling.

Maichack will sing, play guitar, tell tales and the audience will sing, echo, chant and take part in the fun of folktales. The show is free and open to the public.

Maichack has been nominated for a Massachusetts Cultural Council Gold Star Program Award and won two national awards for her storytelling CDs.

Maichack sings, plays guitar and tells stories in a dynamic style. She has performed some 3,000 shows in libraries, schools, festivals since 1989. She was featured several times at the Connecticut Storytelling Festival, Three Apples and Mark Twain Festivals and from San Francisco to Venice, Italy. Her recordings can be found at her Web site,  www.MaryJoMaichack.com, and at www.CDBaby.com.

The event will be held at 9:15 am to 10:15 am and 10:30 am to 11:30 am on Feb. 10 at Leicester Primary School.
