WORCESTER, Mass. - John A. George, 98, formerly of Worcester and Auburn, died on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012 at Beaumont of Northbridge.
He leaves behind his wife of 66 years, Dorothy (Lambe) George; his two sons; Tommie J. George of Northborough, Gary S. George of Leicester; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Born in Korce, Albania in 1913 he immigrated to the U.S. in 1932. After living in Philadelphia and New York, he later joined the U.S. Army and served as a medic during WWII, stationed in Italy and Northern Africa. He owned and operated the Spanish Grille on 703 Main Street from 1940s to the late 1970s and was known as “Little John.” His favorite past time was rooting for his sons and grandchildren at their athletic events. He was a member of St. Mary’s Albanian Orthodox Church.
Calling hours are private. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012 at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St. Northborough.
