WORCESTER, Mass. - Helen Costello, 89, a lifelong Shrewsbury Street area resident, died peacefully Thursday, Feb. 2 in her home with family by her side after a period of declining health.
Helen was born, May 3, 1922 in Worcester, one of five daughters born to Antonio and Filomena (Cirasella) Castiello. She grew up in Worcester, educated in the Worcester Public Schools and after a period of employment as a seamstress in various manufacturing companies on Shrewsbury Street she retired to care for her parents, sisters, nephews and nieces as a “Mother to All”.
Helen is survived by the family she loved so much; her two sisters, Elvira “Vera” Kerr of Leicester, and Esther Panarelli of Worcester; the many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends she so cherished. She was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Bullens and Amelia Castiello.
A simple, and funloving lady who cherished her family, and her Italian heritage. Her sharp wit and sense of humor made her the "Life Of the Party. "She found enjoyment by simlpy being together with her family and friends and will be greatly missed by everyone.
Funeral services for Helen will be held Monday, Feb. 6, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. in the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St. Burial next to her dear sister Amelia will follow in Hope Cemetery. A period of calling hours will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home. The family requests that flowers be omitted.
