Lost Bulldog, Big Papi, Sought in Leicester

LEICESTER, Mass. — Neighbors are on the lookout for Big Papi, a ten-year-old English Bulldog that was last seen in the area of Henshaw Street in Leicester.

Big Papi was lost around 8:30 a.m. on Jan 21. The full-bred English Bulldog is mostly white with a brown left ear and has brown fur on his right eye.

The dog has bad eyesight, and is in need of medication.

Leicester Democrats To Caucus at Hillcrest

LEICESTER, Mass. - The Leicester Democratic Town Committee will caucus at the Hillcrest Country Club on Feb. 11 to elect delegates to the state convention.

“This is going to be an exciting year as we build on our recent successes and prepare for the elections in 2012,” Massachusetts Democratic Party Chairman John Walsh said.

“Caucuses are the first step in building a community organizing strategy for victory. They give people an opportunity to become part of the local effort.”

Laptops To Be Used As Evidence in Gilman Trial

LEICESTER, Mass. — Evidence collected from two laptops will be used in the trial of the former Leicester Middle School teacher facing charges of rape of a minor under 14 years old, after Judge Kenton Walker denied a motion to suppress evidence.

A motion to suppress was made at a hearing held on Oct. 5. Walker took the motion under advisement and on Dec. 14, the judge ordered that the motion to suppress all evidence seized from the search of two laptop computers would be denied.

Tax Preparation Assistance Available For Seniors

LEICESTER, Mass. — Tax season is here, and the Leicester Senior Center will be holding a free tax preparation program for Leicester seniors looking for assistance in filing their returns.

A volunteer from the AARP Tax-Aide program will be at the center from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. beginning on Jan. 31, from Feb. 14, and Feb 28. and every other week in March as well.

"We have several slots open for that, so people can just call and they can have their taxes done for free," said Rachelle Cyr-Cloutier, council on aging director.

Sen. Moore to Hold Office Hours at Senior Center

Leicester, Mass. - State Sen. Michael Moore (D-Millbury) has announced his schedule of local "Office Hours" at the Leicester Senior Center.

During Office hours, anyone is welcome to come and meet with the Senator - no appointment necessary. All Office Hours are on Mondays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., scheduled by community on Jan. 30, March 26, and May 14.

Rescue League Kicks Off Pet Painting Show

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester Animal Rescue League (WARL), which turns 100 this April, will begin its 2012 year-long anniversary celebrations on Wednesday, Feb.8, from 6 to 9 p.m. with Pets that Paint: An Exhibit of Animal Art at Dzian Gallery, 65 Water Street, Worcester.

The paintings in the show were created by shelter pets and are available for purchase. C.C. Lowell, at 258 Park Avenue, Worcester, generously framed the artwork for the nonprofit, no-kill shelter.

LEICESTER, Mass. — In 1800, Thomas Jefferson was elected President by one vote in the House of Representatives after a tie in the electoral college. In 1962, Governors of Maine, Rhode Island and North Dakota were elected by an average of one vote per precinct. And in 2010, in Nevada, the the Lincoln County Primary race for District Attorney was decided by only three votes.

Leicester Little League Registration This Thursday

LEICESTER, Mass. — After over fifty seasons leading youth baseball inthe community, Leicester Little League will hold its next open registration this Week.

The two scheduled registration events will be held on Jan. 26 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Jan. 28, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the new Double Play Sports & Fitness located 190 Main Street Cherry Valley, behind Eller’s Restaurant.

Valentine's Day Brunch To Be Held At Senior Center

LEICESTER, Mass. — This Valentine's Day, Sen. Michael Moore, State Rep. John Binienda and Leicester Selectmen are sponsoring a special brunch for veterans and seniors at the Leicester Senior Center, and couples and singles alike are invited to come join the feast.
